Getting Started
Standalone vs Integrated Mode
Integrated means Open Dental stays your master record. Standalone means Sera is the master record.
Quick answer
In Standalone mode Sera is the master record for patients, appointments and providers. In Integrated mode Open Dental is the master record and Sera keeps a mirror. Mode is chosen during setup and locks once your practice is activated.
Standalone
Sera is the master record for patients, appointments, providers, operatories, insurance plans and procedure codes. There is no practice management system in the loop.
Integrated
Open Dental is the master record for those same records. Sera keeps a local copy so it can answer calls quickly, but Open Dental stays authoritative — appointment changes are made in Open Dental first and then reflected in Sera.
Always owned by Sera
Voice agent configuration and personality, FAQs, practice, appointment and cancellation policies, emergency and escalation rules, notifications, compliance state and billing are Sera-owned in both modes.
Changing mode
You can change mode freely while your practice is still in setup. Once the practice is activated, mode is locked — there is no automated migration between modes today. Contact Sera Support if you need it changed.
