How do I add a provider?
Standalone practices add providers in Sera; Integrated practices add them in Open Dental.
Quick answer
If you are Standalone, a practice administrator adds providers under Providers. If you are Integrated, Open Dental owns providers — add the provider there and Sera picks it up on the next sync.
Steps
- Check your operating mode — Standalone or Integrated.
- Standalone: open Providers and add the provider, including their NPI.
- Integrated: add the provider in Open Dental, then wait for the next sync.
- Confirm the provider appears in Providers.
If it still doesn't work
If a new Open Dental provider is not showing in Sera:
- Confirm the provider is active in Open Dental.
- Check your Open Dental connection status is connected, not degraded.
- Contact Sera Support if it still has not appeared after the next sync.
